The College of Teacher Education (CTE) successfully seized their title for women’s volleyball tournament during the Intramurals week of Cebu Normal University (CNU) last September 18, 2015 at CNU main campus.

Despite of losing the first set of the game, the College of Teacher Education (CTE) didn’t lose hope for claiming their title for this year’s Intramurals event. They had successfully defeated the CNU Medellin, 23-25, 25-20, 25-18 which brought them to victory as the champion of the women’s volleyball tournament.

CTE team captain Shella Marie S. Flores said, “Maka-graduate ko nga champion. Nindot kaayo siya sa feeling, promise. Kay pag first year, fourth. Pag…sugod first year hangtod fourth year; fourth, third, second, karon champion na gyud.” (I will be graduating as champion. It’s overwhelming, indeed. Because on first year; fourth. From first year to fourth year; fourth, third, second, but now we’re champions.)

She admitted that their team had encountered struggles while preparing for the tournament especially when the University has only limited space and it wasn’t enough for them to practice. The University has only one court for the volleyball and there were four teams. They also had problems regarding the budget for the team’s needs, but that didn’t stop them. Instead, they strived hard to get a good trainor.

Flores also shared that before the opening of the Intramurals began, her team had a meeting and decided to attend mass to ask for guidance. “Naningkamot gyud mi’g taman, nag meeting gyud mi. Pray. Salig gyud mi ni God. Before ani nga game, before aning Intramurals opening, nanimba gyud mi sa Church. Si God lang gyud among gisaligan sa tanan ug among coach,” she said. (We strived hard, we had a meeting. Pray. We trust God. Before this game, before the Intramurals opening, we attend mass at the church. We only gave our trust to God and to our coach.)

The College of Teacher Education’s coach Ms. Michelle Olvido said that the team’s ultimate motto is ‘bawi’. “If masayop sila, ang ilahang motto is ‘bawi’. Dili bitaw kanang maluya sila kay napildi sila sa first set pero imbis nga maluya sila kay ilang gi-ingon kay mo bawi sila. That means ganahan sila makadaog and ganahan sila mohatag sa ilang best gyud,” said the coach. (If they made mistakes, their motto is ‘regain’. Not in the sense that they will lose hope because they lost in the first set but instead of losing hope, they will just say that they will ‘regain’. That means that they really wanted to win and they really wanted to give their best.)

The players were hopeful that they would compete this coming November on the SCUAA Regionals to be held at Cebu Technological University, and if given the chance, they want to bring home the title for the women’s volleyball tournament, and proceed to PASUC Nationals which will be held at Cebu Normal University.
