LEGACY VS. HUNGER: Which do you think will reign?
For College of of Arts and Sciences, it is a must to defend their legacy of being the champion. For College of Teacher Education, it is high time to bag down the elusive crown.
GAME TIME
Wanting to leave a mark, CAS women's basketball team poured their heart out on the game, defended their title as the champions of the Intramurals Women's Basketball and defeated the College of Teacher Education with a lead of 7 points.
They opened the first quarter with a two pointer lay-up and ended it by giving CTE a huge deficit of 6 points, with the score of 9-3.
However, in the second quarter, CAS became paralyzed and remained still from their first quarter score. CTE took the opportunity and gained a point to nothing-run, yet could not tie the quarter, ending it with 9-4.
The third quarter became an eye-opener to the players, speeding up the engine. CAS added 7 points to their previous score, not giving CTE a chance to come closer, with a third quarter score of 16-9.
Not slowing down with the pace, CAS continued to shoot points and left CTE behind with a final score of 24-17.
DIFFICULTIES
Winning the championship is not a walk in the park. Maria Glena Mae Jumao-as, CAS team captain admitted that they were not prepared enough for the game, practicing only during Saturdays and only six members of the team would attend.
Jumao-as also pointed out that their coach was not present during their practice because of seminars so they have to do it on their own. As a team captain, she had to lead her teammates during practice and constantly encouraged them to give their best during the game.
THE LEGACY
One of the many inspirations of the players, especially those who are graduating, is to be able to defend their title before they leave the team. Their victory will serve as a constant reminder for the young bloods to do better in the next Intramural games.
Jumao-as addressed this message to the young ones: "Kung moduwa sila ug usa ka sport, dapat ila e-love. Kay naa man guy uban abi kay taas sila, gikinahanglan sila sa team, ana rasad sila. Dapat love sad nimo kung unsa imo giduwaan. Dili man sad na magsilbi kung dili nimo love ang usa ka sport." (If they will play a sport, they must love the sport. Because there are some who were tall and they think that they were needed by the team, they'll just do it. You should love what you are playing. It will not serve its purpose if you will not love the sport.)
